Turk would be happy in a home with a female dog or as an only dog. He is very friendly with people and is extremely smart and a quick learner. He pulls a bit hard on the leash but is very willing to learn. Turk is such a great dog, he will make an excellent companion and guardian. Turk was rescued by a nationwide all volunteer humane rescue organization called The National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network (NASRN). NASRN does not maintain shelters, and so relies on regional volunteers and organizations like DogsOnly to help them rescue and rehome animals. As with all Anatolians, secure fencing is an absolute requirement! Please dont be tempted to adopt on an impulse. Typical of Turks Anatolian Shepherd heritage, he could well live to be 15 years old, so you should take the time to carefully consider the long term commitment, expense, and passion it takes to give him the home he deserves. Turk might be cute, but he is still a very large, energetic, and powerful dog. Bringing a very large dog like Anatolian Shepherd into your home will almost certainly involve a significant financial commitment, and will require some personal sacrifice on your part. For that reason we would prefer a family experienced with large breed dogs. Turk will reward you with unbounded love and devotion, but you must be committed and serious about your decision to bring him into your life. Remember, this is an adoption, not a sale, and were very serious about making sure that both you and Turk are a good match for each other. Turk is NOT currently attending our weekly adoption showing at the West Little Rock Petco on Chenal Parkway across from Target and Home Depot, but if you would like to meet Turk, please click the links on this page to fill out an adoption application. Turks adoption fee is set by and goes to the National Anatolian Rescue Network and helps to reimburse their expenses for all the necessary vet care that have been provided to include: spay or neuter (mandatory - no exceptions, rabies, all vaccinations (including all puppy shots if applicable, rabies, adult boosters and Bordatella, grooming, Frontline for flea/tick preventative, heartworm check if age appropriate and monthly preventative for all ages while in foster care, and collar. The adoption fee does not reimburse for all our expenses and covers only a portion of the cost of Turks rescue and rehabilitation expenses. Neither DogsOnly or NASRN receives any type of tax, government or corporate sponsorship. Please keep this in mind when you are adopting a fully vetted dog. All of our young and adult dogs are available for a 2-week home visit before finalizing the adoption process (local adoptions only). This is to help ensure it is a good match for all involved without making a final commitment. Puppies under the age of 6 months are not available to go on home visits. All of our rescues are in private homes and not available to be visited outside of showing times. All of our foster homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most are also housetrained. None of our foster homes have cats, so we can only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats. We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found. We rely solely on donations and are a 501(c)3 Humane Society.
